Raisman is pure gold, even after injury

-

Olympic gold medalist and local girl Aly Raisman is remarkable. This week she posted a picture of herself on Twitter that featured her right arm in a cast. “I survived two Olympic Games and 19 years of gymnastics without ever breaking a bone,” she wrote. “The stairs got me … I fell and broke my elbow.”

That she is stoic in light of her injury is no surprise, but it serves as a good reminder that the 24- year-old Needham native is an extraordinary young person. Not only was she captain for both the gold medal-winning 2012 and 2016 U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics teams, but she has been an advocate for all women after surviving sexual abuse at the hands of a former team doctor. She is also a successful author. All before age 25.

We look forward to this amazing young woman’s future successes.
