BC rallies, but drops Battle vs. ’Cuse

Tyus Battle scored 21 points, including 15 in the second half, Buddy Boeheim hit for a career-high 16 and host Syracuse withstood a late Boston College rally to defeat the Eagles, 67-56, yesterday.

Oshae Brissett chipped in with 12 for Syracuse (17-7, 8-3 Atlantic Coast), which rebounded from an 18-point home loss Tuesday against No. 22 Florida State.

Ky Bowman, who sat the first 5:03 of the game due to a violation of team rules, led the Eagles (11-11, 2-8) with 21 points.

Northeaste­rn 72, Elon 60 — Vasa Pusica had 23 points and the Huskies (15-9, 9-3 CAA) shut out the Phoenix (8-18, 4-9) in overtime for the victory at Matthews Arena.

Jordan Roland added 21 points for the Huskies, while Bolden Brace chipped in 20 points and 14 rebounds.

UMass 54, Davidson 51 — Carl Pierre had a seasonhigh 23 points as the Minute- men (9-15, 2-9 Atlantic 10) narrowly defeated the Wildcats (17-6, 8-2) in Amherst.

Pierre shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Keon Clergeot had 12 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with five seconds remaining, for UMass.

Bucknell 82, Boston University 76 — Nate Sestina had 25 points and 11 rebounds as the Bison (16-8, 10-2 Patriot) defeated the Terriers (11-14, 4-8) in Lewisburg, Pa.

Javante McCoy had 19 points for the Terriers. In Top 25 action: Tennessee 73, Florida 61 — Grant Williams scored 16 points as the No. 1 Volunteers (22-1, 10-0 SEC) defeated the Gators (12-11, 4-6) in Knoxville, Tenn., to complete a season sweep of the Gators and extend its school-record winning streak to 18 games.

Duke 81, Virginia 71 — RJ Barrett scored 26 points, Zion Williamson had 18 and the No. 2 Blue Devils (21-2, 9-1 ACC) used an early barrage of 3-pointers to stun the No. 3 Cavaliers (20-2, 8-2) in Charlottes­ville, Va.

Kentucky 71, Mississipp­i State 67 — PJ Washington scored 23 points, Keldon Johnson added 13 and the No. 5 Wildcats (20-3, 9-1 SEC) held on to beat the Bulldogs (16-7, 4-6) in Starkville, Miss.

Nevada 91, New Mexico 62 — Trey Porter had 20 points and nine rebounds as the No. 6 Wolfpack (23-1, 10-1 Mountain West) avenged their only loss, dominating the Lobos (10-13, 4-7) in Reno, Nev..

Michigan 61, Wisconsin 52 — Jon Teske had 17 points and 12 rebounds, holding his own inside against Ethan Happ, and Charles Matthews scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half to lift the No. 7 Wolverines (22-2, 11-2 Big Ten) over the No. 19 Badgers (17-7, 9-4) in Ann Arbor, Mich.

North Carolina 88, Miami 85 — Kenny Williams hit the goahead 3-pointer with 2:08 left in overtime to help the eighthrank­ed Tar Heels (19-4, 9-1 ACC) hold off the Hurricanes (10-13, 2-9) in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Michigan State 79, Minnesita 55 — Nick Ward had 22 points and Matt McQuaid scored a season-high 18, leading the No. 9 Spartans (19-5, 10-3 Big Ten) over the Golden Gophers (16-8, 6-7) in East Lansing, Mich.

Clemson 59, Virginia Tech 51 — Shelton Mitchell scored 22 points with a career-best five 3-pointers and the Tigers (18-5, 7-4 ACC) outlasted the No. 11 Hokies (15-8, 5-5) in Clemson, S.C.

Kansas 84 Oklahoma State 72 — Dedric Lawson scored 25 points, Ochai Agbaji hit five 3s and had 23 points, and the No. 13 Jayhawks (18-6, 7-4 Big 12) shrugged off a slow start to beat the Cowboys (9-14, 2-8) in Lawrence, Kan.

Marquette 66, Villanova 65 — In Milwaukee, Markus Howard scored 38 points and the No. 10 Golden Eagles (20-4, 9-2) hung on at the buzzer, handing the No. 14 Wildcats (19-5, 10-1) their first Big East Conference loss.

Florida State 60, Louisville 75 — Mfiondu Kabengele scored 22 points and the No. 22 Seminoles (18-5, 6-4 ACC) erased a 10-point second-half deficit to force overtime, then knock off the Cardinals (17-7, 8-3) in Tallahasse­e, Fla.

Texas Tech 66, Oklahoma 54 — Davide Moretti scored 14 points to help the No. 18 Red Raiders (19-5, 7-4 Big 12) roll past the Sooners (15-9, 3-8) in Norman, Okla.

TCU 82, Iowa State 83 — Kendric Davis scored a seasonhigh 22 points, and the Horned Frogs (17-6, 5-5 Big 12) stunned the No. 17 Cyclones (18-6, 7-4) in Ames, Iowa, for its first road win over a Top 25 team in 21 years.

LSU 83, Auburn 78 — Tremont Waters had 19 points and 10 assists and No. 21 LSU (19-4, 9-1 SEC) overcame a sluggish start to beat Auburn (16-7, 5-5) in a battle of Tigers in Baton Rouge, La.

Buffalo 90, Central Michigan 76 — Jeremy Harris had 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and the No. 23 Bulls (20-3, 8-2 Mid-American) rallied to beat the Chippewas (16-7, 5-5) in Amherst, N.Y.
