INTRIGUING NAMES

-

Adam Humphries

The Patriots were fortunate this season to ge games from Julian Edelman, who did not miss a after returning from a four-game suspension. They haven’t always been so lucky.

In past years, the Patriots could rely on Danny dola in the event of an Edelman injury. They’re nidentical players, as Edelman is more explosive and better after the catch, but both are chaino movers who work the middle of the field.

Bill Belichick probably doesn’t want to go into another season without a “backup” for Edelman.

Humphries fits on several levels. He’s a solid possession receiver with some pop after the catch. He’s entering the prime of his career, and doesn’t have many injuries on n his record. He’s played 16 games in back-to-back seasons.

In the 2013 offseason, the Pats shelled out $31 milies lion for a 27-year-old Amendola (although a ser of restructures would trim that figure). They’re willing to pay at the position.

In the 2019 offseason, the 25-year-old Humphries could be a priority.

Jamison Crowder

Injuries have held him back the past few years, but Crowder looked like a rising star in 2016, when he totaled 847 yards and seven TDs.

Like Adam Humphries, Crowder primarily ope ates out of the slot. He’s exceptionally quick an plays faster after the catch than his 4.56 40-ya dash time would suggest.

The Patriots held a private workout with Crowder prior to the 2015 NFL Draft.

Cole Beasley

The Patriots would prefer to go younger at the position, but Beasley makes sense if they can’t afford Humphries. He’s been a productive slot receiver for years. The eighth-year veteran would likely thrive in the Patriots’ system.
