Lightning shut out Canadiens

Nikita Kucherov had a goal and an assist in the third period, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 last night in Tampa for their fifth consecutiv­e victory.

Andrei Vasilevski­y finished with 20 saves in his second consecutiv­e shutout and franchise-record 18th for his career. It was Vasilevski­y’s sixth shutout of the season, tied with Marc-Andre Fleury for the league lead.

Steven Stamkos had two assists, helping Tampa Bay improve to 7-0-2 in the past nine games. Tyler Johnson scored his 21st goal of the season.

Carey Price finished with 34 saves for Montreal. The Canadiens are winless in their past three games (0-2-1) after one loss in the previous 10 games.

Flyers 6, Red Wings 5 — Travis Konecny scored his second goal of the game 1:27 into overtime and host Philadelph­ia bounced back from squanderin­g a big lead to beat Detroit.

Despite overcoming a four-goal lead in the third period, Detroit remained winless in Philadelph­ia for more than 20 years. The Flyers are 15-0-1 on home ice against the Red Wings since getting swept by them in the 1997 Stanley Cup finals.

Flames 5, Penguins 4 — Michael Frolik had the first of four second-period goals for visiting Calgary, which held on to snap a season-long four-game skid with a win over Pittsburgh.

Frolik, Austin Czarnik, Travis Hamonic and Sam Bennett scored during a mid-game 17-minute span for Calgary, which avenged a 9-1 loss to Pittsburgh in October during the teams’ other meeting this season.

Coyotes 2, Maple Leafs 0 — In Glendale, Ariz., Darcy Kuemper stopped 21 shots and Arizona spoiled Auston Matthews’ return to his hometown with a shutout of Toronto.

Arizona won the teams’ first meeting 4-2 in Toronto last month and took control of the rematch with goals by Alex Galchenyuk and Josh Archibald in the second period.

Hurricanes 3, Stars 0 — Petr Mrazek stopped 33 shots in his third shutout of the season and Carolina moved into a wild card playoff spot with a win over Dallas in Raleigh, N.C.

The Hurricanes improved to 16-5-1 in their last 22 games, the most wins and points in the NHL in that span.

Senators 4, Jets 3 — Ryan Dzingel scored at 3:44 of overtime to give visiting Ottawa a victory over Winnipeg.

Mark Stone, Rudolfs Balcers and Matt Duchene scored power-play goals, and Stone and Dzingel each had one assist. Anders Nilsson stopped 23 shots to help the Senators improve to 3-7-0 in their last 10.

Islanders 5, Oilers 2 — Mathew Barzal and Anders Lee scored in the third period, and New York beat Edmonton Oilers in the final game of the regular season at Barclays Center.

Ryan Pulock, Valtteri Filppula, and Brock Nelson also scored, and Devon Toews had two assists to help New York win for the fifth time in six games and improve to 215-2 in the last 28 games. Robin Lehner stopped 34 shots for his 18th win, moving to 14-3-1 since Dec. 18.

Blues 3, Avalanche 0 — Jake Allen made 32 saves, Vladimir Tarasenko and Zach Sanford scored 57 seconds apart in the third period and St. Louis beat Colorado in Denv er for its ninth straight victory.

Elsewhere in the NHL — The Vancouver Canucks have acquired center Ryan Spooner, sending Sam Gagner back to the Edmonton Oilers.
