Happy Birthday, Ray Flynn
On July 22, former mayor of Boston and former ambassador to the Holy See Ray Flynn celebrated a milestone — his 80th birthday. There was a festive and congratulatory atmosphere in the James M. Curley Room at Boston City Hall to show appreciation to Boston’s 52nd mayor. Family and friends as well as city officials were present to extend Flynn a warm thanks for his many years of serving the people of the city. Mayor Martin Walsh, on behalf of the City of Boston, declared July 22, 2019, Mayor Ray Flynn Day.
The proclamation mentioned that Flynn is “a life-long resident, a graduate of South Boston High School, Providence College and Harvard University, and has served as a State Representative and Boston City Councilor” as well as stating that the former mayor “is passionate about serving the people of Boston, and during his time as Mayor he focused on helping our most vulnerable residents by expanding and improving job opportunities, affordable housing, and social and economic justice efforts.” The proclamation also indicated that along with being active in his community, Flynn “plays a key role in many organizations throughout the city, including being a youth sports coach to many young people in the neighborhood and children with special needs.” A fitting birthday tribute to a son of South Boston who has given time, effort and talents to the people of the Boston community who he has for so long served.
