Get a ‘Downton’ etiquette lesson in the Back Bay
Pinkies up, Boston. As the country prepares for the highly anticipated “Downton Abbey” movie to hit theaters Sept. 20, local fans have a chance to brush up on their post-Edwardian English education with an evening of etiquette inspired by the BBC drama.
The Fairmont Copley Plaza, Downton Abbey: The Exhibition and Beaumont Etiquette are all joining forces to host an exclusive etiquette session on Sept. 10 honoring the hit show and its upcoming film. Beaumont’s founder Myka Meier, who also runs The Plaza Hotel’s esteemed finishing program, and her company’s COO, resident style and royal expert, Anne Chertoff, will both be on hand to lead the discussion on proper manners and decorum of the time.
We know a night dedicated to minding your Ps and Qs might sound like a stuffy snoozefest. But this event hardly seems reminiscent of your grandmother’s stint at charm school. For one thing, devotees of the beloved British drama can expect to start the evening with a cocktail reception featuring drinks and light bites, all in the theme of the popular period piece.
After the refreshments, guests will be shuttled to the exhibition for a private, after-hours viewing, where Meier will introduce the dos and don’ts of high society and shed light on the social conventions to which Downton’s characters were held. In addition to hearing the secrets of navigating various social settings with the grace of a Crawley, everyone will also learn about the different types of dress during the series’ 1912-1920s time frame from Chertoff, who’ll use the array of cast costumes on display as examples.
Any aspiring lords and ladies who are interested in taking part in the Grantham goodness can find additional details and purchase tickets through the Eventbrite page for the After-Hours Etiquette Talk at Downton Abbey: The Exhibition.
