BOYS IN BLUE
Run-DMC to play private set for police fundraiser
Run-DMC will be walking this way next month, when the hip-hop icons are slated to perform for our boys in blue.
The Boston Police Activities League has announced it will be hosting its first-ever fundraising gala, Night in
Blue, to celebrate its 30th anniversary. And during the bash, which will be taking place on Oct. 16 at the Revere Hotel Boston Common, the org is expected to welcome these Rock & Roll
Hall of Famers to the stage for an intimate show.
To start the evening off strong, there will be an invite-only Commissioner’s VIP Reception. But once the super-duper exclusive portion of the party concludes, the general festivities will ensue, beginning with cocktails, live auction action and awards ceremony. Dinner will be served before the legendary ’80s rappers take over. While we’re unsure which rhymes they’ll be rocking, we hope they’ll be packing their private set with a number of their multiplatinum hits, like “King of Rock,” “It’s Tricky,” “Adidas” and “Walk This Way” — the last of which had them famously joining forces with Aerosmith to record.
Besides providing the perfect excuse to rage to Run-DMC, Night in Blue will also serve as a festive salute to some of our city officials and their efforts to amplify public safety and youth engagement. Mayor Marty Walsh will specifically be honored during the upcoming event, where he’ll be presented with the Boston PAL Lifetime Achievement Award.
The shindig — which is expected to attract a crowd of more than 400 people, peppered with local leaders — will also be a figurative hat-tip to the Boston Police Department’s Bureau of Community Engagement’s programs. Funds will benefit Boston PAL’s plans to expand signature programs throughout town.
