Alleged killer served 15 years for stealing cop’s gun
Father, son were shot in Framingham
The man accused of murdering a father and son who walked through disputed drug territory in Framingham on Friday had previously served a 15-year sentence in Puerto Rico for stealing a police officer’s gun, prosecutors said in court Wednesday.
Aneudy Delgado Torres, 39, of Framingham, was arrested Tuesday at a Marlboro hotel and charged with the murder of James “Manny” Wade, 45, and his son, James Wade, 24, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Framingham Police Chief Steven Trask.
He was arraigned in Framingham District Court on two counts of murder, possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
“I’m relieved that they got him off the street,” said Yolanda Ellison, the mother of the 24-year-old victim. “When he came out I got so emotional. Then hearing them read what happened, how my son got shot and how Manny got shot, it was devastating.”
Prosecutors said that officers found the father and son in a parking lot adjacent to Beaver Terrace Circle shortly after 11:30 p.m.
The younger Wade was shot in the back and in the leg and was pronounced dead at the scene, whereas his father, who prosecutors said was shot 19 times, was rushed to Metro West Medical Center in Framingham, where he died of his injuries.
Prosecutors explained that there recently has been competition between drug dealers for control of the area where the victims were shot, and said that two groups were meeting to discuss the territory when Delgado suddenly pulled out a firearm and began shooting, without any conversation between the groups.
Delgado Torres admitted that he was at the disputed drug territory where the shooting occurred, but denied that he was the one who killed them, his attorney said outside court Wednesday.
“The commonwealth has not said what the basis is for them to allege that Mr. Delgado Torres was the shooter. So that’s a blank in the case that we’re going to be looking into,” said Attorney Bernard Grossberg. “He was in one of the groups, yes, he told the police he was, but he went there for the expressed purpose of trying to work things out between the two different groups, and someone started firing and it wasn’t him.”
In addition to his 15-year sentence, prosecutors said that Delgado Torres was recently arrested for operating under the influence of drugs, and that during a subsequent search of the car officers found a firearm Velcroed under one of the seats.
Delgado Torres was held without bail for both cases. He is due back in court on Feb. 12.
Prosecutors said they are still investigating the relationship between Delgado Torres and the victims, though Ellison said she wasn’t aware of any connection.
According to authorities, the victims were at the parking lot to meet people they knew.
