Spacious, sporty Cadillac XT6 delivers

- Marc GRASSO

Effortlessly capable, impressively stylish.

With 117 years and counting as General Motors’ luxury brand, Cadillac shows no signs of slowing down, and the characteristics above describe its all-new, sevenpassenger people mover, the all-wheel-drive XT6.

It’s not a baby Escalade. The XT6 is a spacious, sporty SUV with a twin clutch all-wheel-drive system, ideal for on-the-go families. It’s roomy — providing a great 78.7 cubic feet of storage and category-leading third-row headroom of an astounding 37.2 inches.

Sharp exterior and interior trim options were abundant on our Premium Luxury model, which is adequately priced for this segment.

Sharing a chassis with the GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse, the Cadillac XT6 sets itself apart from those family members. The attention to body roll keeps the vehicle steady through the turns and comfort doesn’t lack in any way.

The 3.6-liter, 310-hp V-6, with 271 pound-feet of torque, has enough power to do the job. Its 0-60 mph time came in at just over seven seconds, activated via a standard nine-speed automatic transmission. (It has a rival in power here — the Lincoln Aviator delivers 400 hp.)

Standard in the XT6 is a luxurious infotainment system loaded with technology; the touch-screen capabilities and a center console dial are easy to use. The eight-inch screen is not too large nor in the way of visibility, smartly positioned in the center dash. Six USB ports are standard — there really are never enough in a vehicle. Now most passengers can charge their devices on the road.

We really enjoyed the Night Vision option for only $2,000 — it minimizes glare while driving at night and greatly enhanced seeing objects in the road. A surround-vision camera and automatic park assist were great features.

Two model options are available with the XT6, the Premium Luxury and the Sport Model. The Premium Luxury model has basic exterior trim levels similar to other XT series vehicles in the lineup. For additional appearance options, the Sport model has a V-seriesinspired grill, tinted taillights, sport exhaust trims and 20-inch wheels, with 21inch wheels available.
