Boston Police shoot man who allegedly tried to stab cop
A Boston Police officer shot a man in the leg late Monday night after the man turned from an alleged knife attack against another man and attempted to stab the officer’s partner when he intervened, officials said.
The shooting occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Adams Street in Dorchester, according to Police Commissioner William Gross.
Gross said officers were patrolling in their cruiser when they witnessed a 48year-old man stab a 32-yearold man multiple times, including in the neck and back.
“One of the adult males was wielding a knife and actively stabbing the victim,” Gross said. “It was a very violent attack.”
When one of the officers tried to separate the two, the alleged attacker then turned and tried to stab him, Gross said. Fearing for the lives of both his partner and the victim, the other officer shot the man in the thigh.
The officers then applied a tourniquet to the suspect’s leg and Boston EMS rushed him and the stabbing victim to nearby hospitals, where they were both reportedly in stable condition, Gross said. The officers were not injured.
“If anyone saw anything, please help us facilitate this investigation,” Gross said.
“Any and all reports will be accepted and welcome.”
Police will interview both men in order to determine the motive behind the attack, Gross said.
Additionally, Gross said that Mayor Martin Walsh and Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins were notified of the incident and that police are canvassing the neighborhood for surveillance footage.
The suspect’s name was not released.
