Where to book your Valentine’s date night in Boston

- By J.Q. LOUISE

Valentine’s Day is a tricky night out; should you go for a moody, romantic destination or somewhere fun? Here are a few recommendations to help you decide where to make that dinner reservation.

Fun

Yellow Door Taqueria

354 Harrison Ave. yellowdoortaqueria.com Having just opened this week in the former Lion’s Tail space, the brand-new Yellow Door Taqueria in the South End is the newest kid on the block. A night here promises tasty tacos, flavorful margaritas and a buzzing atmosphere. The addition of the neon signs makes the decor moody and cool, and the large bar area makes this a fun neighborhood spot to hang out any night. This is the place to head for Valentine’s Day if you want a laidback, but still romantic date.

Cozy

Stillwater

120 Kingston St. stillwaterboston.com Chef Sarah Wade’s specialty is belly-warming but elevated comfort food, and her Valentine’s Day menu is no different. With a set menu for the 14th, a visit to Stillwater will include charcuterie, short rib, brown butter haddock, a mushroom pappardelle pasta and some “sexy” desserts. All this and a bottle of bubbly is $80/couple. Located in the Radian, Stillwater is right in Downtown-Chinatown and the Leather District, a few minutes’ walk from South Station.

Between the menu, the warm atmosphere and the friendly staff, a chilly night here is sure to be a cozy one.

Romantic

SRV

569 Columbus Ave. srvboston.com

For a romantic night out, SRV’s take on Venetian cuisine does the trick. Executive chefs Michael Lombardi and Kevin O’Donnell are offering a tasting menu at $95/person, with a $55/person wine pairing option. Guests will be served things like chickpea farinata with fontina and black truffle and rainbow trout with celery root, citrus and mustard greens. And in the bar area, which will be first come first served, guests can choose from either the tasting menu or a la carte.

Active

Red Lantern

39 Stanhope St. redlanternboston.com Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year, we have the whole weekend to celebrate. And if you are looking for something hands-on to treat your valentine to this year, head to Red Lantern. On Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., Red Lantern is hosting a couples sushi making class. For $80 a person, guests can enjoy sake and cocktails while learning how to make sushi from the team at Red Lantern.

Classic

Top of the Hub

800 Boylston St. topofthehub.net

This is the last Valentine’s Day when you can visit Top of the Hub. Whether it’s for nostalgia’s sake or tradition, head to Top of the Hub for one last dinner or drink with a view from the top of the Pru. Top of the Hub will serve its classic lunch prix fixe from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and for dinner there will be a four course, prix fixe Valentine’s Day menu from 4 to 10 p.m., priced at $125 per person.
