Who killed the cat? There’s $2G on it

- By ERIN TIERNAN

An anonymous donor is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the “tragic” death of a Fall River cat named Wolf, whose owners were forced to put him down after he was shot with a BB gun last week, police said.

Wolf’s owner told police her 10-year-old cat “couldn’t move and appeared to be injured” when she found him lying in her yard on the morning of Feb. 5. A vet found a BB pellet lodged in the cat’s spine — paralyzing Wolf, who had to be euthanized.

“Wolf was absolutely an amazing cat,” Shelly Borges wrote in a public Facebook post warning local pet owners. “I don’t understand how someone could do that.”

The story was so moving a member of the Rhode Island SPCA felt compelled to offer the reward, Fall River Police Det. John Robinson said.

“We hope this act of kindness encourages those with information to come forward, providing a swift resolution to the case, closure for the family, and justice for Wolf,” Robinson said.

Wolf is the second cat to be shot by a BB gun in Fall River so far this year. A cat was shot five times but survived last month about a mile and a half away from where Wolf was found, Robinson said. Last year police responded to one incident of a cat being shot by a BB gun.

Borges said this isn’t the first time one of her animals has been targeted by a BB gun. Three years ago someone shot her dog, she told police.
