It’s blue – and green all over

- By MIRIAM SCHWARTZ

Arriving at the end of a dead-end street, at the foot of Ollie Turner Park in Wellesley, you’ll be forgiven for assuming that the newish Colonial at 44 Carver Road is just another custom home in the family-friendly Standish Estates community.

A closer look and, even better, a full tour reveals an impeccably crafted home designed using the latest green technology for an ecofriendly dwelling that’s as chic as it is efficient.

Abutting conservation land and blessed with a halfacre lot, the home enjoys lovely views of wooded land and a babbling creek. To take full advantage of these surroundings, the residence — custom built by local favorites Federow Development — is enveloped in windows. Smaller ones for detail, larger ones to let the light flood in, and dramatic architectural ones, like the ones hugging the kitchen’s breakfast nook and illuminating the staircase.

Quite large at a hair under 5,000 square feet, the home’s rooms are just the right amount of elegant and cozy. A marble-trimmed woodburning fireplace in the formal living room is the anchor of this welcoming and comfortable space.

The kitchen, featuring an oversized quartzite-topped island, opens to a laid-back family room with access to a screened-in porch and deck with Trex decking. Growing families looking to head for (literally) greener pastures in Wellesley from the city will love 44 Carver’s four bedrooms, including a sumptuous master suite and luxurious bath, but also the many other bonus rooms, with flexible use for play, office, gym and even multigenerational living.

The home’s green features warrant a special mention because of how they come together to conserve energy. There’s a geothermal heating and cooling system, an Energy Recovery Ventilation system, low E2 windows and patio doors, and special skylights to bring in natural light in otherwise darker areas without hitting a light switch. Radiant heat throughout the entire lower level as well as the master bath will be especially appreciated on cold winter mornings.

Ideal for commuters with proximity to both the commuter rail and Interstate 95, the home is also a short walk from an elementary school plus walking trails and picturesque Longfellow Pond.

Open house hours are from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. For more information about the sale of the home, contact Patrick Doyle with William Raveis Real Estate, 617-8359961.
