Ten more people in Massachusetts have died from coronavirus, state health officials announced Thursday as they also reported 579 new cases, while the U.S. surpassed China for the highest number of coronavirus cases in the world.

The 10 new fatalities in Massachusetts bring the state total to 25 coronavirus deaths.

The 25 people who have died ranged in age from those in their 50s to 90s, and many of them had pre-existing conditions. They include residents from Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Worcester, Hampden, Berkshire, Essex, Barnstable and Franklin counties.
