Ninety-six new coronavirus deaths were reported in Massachusetts Tuesday, along with more than 1,300 new cases of the highly contagious disease.

The 96 reported deaths bring the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 356, the state Department of Public Health announced.

The nearly 100 new deaths are the largest oneday increase for Massachusetts, though the number reflects both deaths from the past 24 hours and also from over the weekend, according to DPH.

“DPH receives reports of deaths from more than one source that are then matched to laboratory confirmed cases and reported out as quickly as possible,” DPH said in a statement.

The previous largest oneday reported jump was 38 deaths on Friday.

The new reported deaths ranged from people in their 40s to 100s.

The state now has 15,202 confirmed cases of the highly contagious disease, an increase of 1,365 cases since Monday.
