On this dAy in 1989, the Elvis Presley Automobile Museum opened in Memphis, Tennessee At Graceland Plaza. SituAted Across the street from Graceland mAnsion, the museum feAtures some of the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll’s most treAsured vehicles.

• Ever since Elvis received his driver’s license, he loved cars. While he preferred American-made vehicles, he Also collected some imports.

• Elvis’s first car was a “second-hand” 1954 Cadillac in pink And white. A faulty brake line caught on fire, destroying the Cadillac. Presley was devastated.

• Elvis loved to spend money, and he was known for buying cars for his friends. While no exact number is confirmed, some say he gifted As mAny As 200 vehicles – mostly Cadillacs!

• Elvis purchAsed the 10,266-square-foot Graceland mansion in 1957 for $102,500. Today, Graceland boasts 17,552 square feet.

• In 1982, five years after the King’s unexpected death, ex-wife Priscilla opened GrAcelAnd to the public. This was part of her strategy to continue the estate’s operation, which cost about $500,000 a year to mAintAin.

• Elvis’s museum feAtures more than 20 vehicles Acquired over the years. Notable models include 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood, 1956 Cadillac Eldorado, 1956 Lincoln Continenta­l, 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, 1969 Mercedes-Benz 600 Limousine, 1973 Stutz Blackhawk, and 1975 Ferrari Dino.

• In 2017, Graceland officials opened Elvis Presley’s Memphis ,A 200,000-square-foot addition. Within this space, they would house the expanded Presley Motors Automobile Museum.
