Virus strikes some Quincy schools staffers
Summer program workers now need to quarantine
Several students and staff members participating in Quincy Public Schools’ summer programs are being told to self-quarantine after three employees tested positive for coronavirus this past week.
A staffer at North Quincy
High School notified administrators of a positive virus test on July 11. A Quincy High School administrative staff member and a staffer at the Della Chiesa Early Childhood Center both tested positive Thursday.
Five students and a staff member at North Quincy were told to seek testing and quarantine for 14 days, as were seven students and a staffer at the Della Chiesa center. Students will continue their summer special education programs remotely during their isolation period.
Three administrative staffers at Quincy High
School were told to get tested and quarantine as well.
The infected North Quincy staffer has not been at work since July 8. The other two sickened staff members were last at work on July 14.
“Please know that in all cases, as soon as information about presumed or confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 was shared, the notification process began to staff and families, and the custodial staff was notified to give extra attention for cleaning and sanitizing the affected areas,” Deputy Superintendent Kevin Mulvey wrote in a letter posted on the district’s website. “At all times, the health and safety of our students, staff, and their families is of the utmost importance to me.”
The positive cases in Quincy come just days after an employee of Westwood Public Schools working during a summer school program inadvertently exposed others to coronavirus during a threehour period of in-person instruction, leading one school to be closed for cleaning.
