Norwell stays perfect in blanking Carver

CARVER — With Carver’s defense packing it in deep in its own zone Tuesday, it was an open invitation for Norwell to attack.

And with plenty of room to operate, the Clippers had little trouble getting their highoctane attack going.

Norwell dominated possession with pristine passing from the opening whistle and registered four different goal scorers en route to a 4-0 South Shore League road win.

Norwell (5-0) has yet to score less than four goals in a game this season and has now outscored its opponents by a combined 27-2 margin. Norwell coach Jack Browne credited a simple approach for the offense’s resounding success.

“We work a lot on distribution and passing,” Browne said. “Nobody has to do heroic things out there. Just do your job. Couple of touches and find the open man and use both sides of the field quickly.”

It didn’t take long for the Clippers to strike as Ethan

Thompson buried his shot in the fourth minute for the early advantage.

With Carver (3-2) staying back and forming a defensive shell, Norwell stayed aggressive and routinely pushed eight players into the attacking third to outshoot the Crusaders, 19-3.

Carver goalie Justin Ritz (15 saves) did his best to try to hold off Norwell, but the constant pressure wore the Crusaders down and there was no stopping a perfectly placed shot from Aidan Hayes that sailed into the top right corner just before halftime for a 2-0 lead.

“When we saw that they were back, we switched the ball a lot through our midfield,” Hayes said, “and we got the defense on attack, which helped a lot.”

Michael Bulens then scored in a crowd from within close in the 61st minute and less than four minutes later, John Mullen capped another dominant showing from the Clippers by putting home a rebound.

Elsewhere in the SSL, Angelo Jerome scored twice in a 6-2 victory for Randolph (3-2) against Middleboro. ...

Ben Higgins tallied the game’s only score as East Bridgewater nipped Abington, 1-0.

Adam Stelljes scored his 13th goal of the season with five minutes left to give Archbishop Williams (5-1) a 1-0 win over BishopStang in the Catholic Central League.

James Gikas and Ryder Vignes each found the net for St. John’s Prep in a 2-0 victory over Catholic Memorial in the Catholic Conference.

In a nonleague matchup, Senior Thomas Lisi scored a pair of goals as Danvers opened the season with a 3-0 win over Salem.
