Massachusetts health officials on Tuesday reported that more than 44,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were administered during the most recent day of vax data, as the first doses of the Johnson & Johnson vax arrived in Boston.
The state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Tuesday showed 1,813,992 total doses have been administered — 1,248,571 people who have received at least one dose and 565,421 people who have received both doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

More than 2 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and 88% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
Two days after the Johnson & Johnson vax was authorized for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration, the first J&J doses arrived at Tufts Medical Center Tuesday morning.

The state’s count of estimated active cases has fallen to 28,867, a drop from 98,750 cases at the start of the year. The last time the estimated active case tally was below 30,000 was midNovember.
Tuesday’s 37 new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 16,182. The seven-day average of daily deaths is now 35, down from 77 daily deaths a few weeks ago. That figure peaked at 175 daily deaths in late April.
Statewide hospitalizations have been plunging. Hospitalizations on Tuesday went down by 13 patients, bringing the total to 775 patients.
The seven-day average of the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has declined from 2,347 patients at the start of January to an average of 815 patients now.
