FOOTBALL PICKORAMA

-

The week ended a lot better than it started.

Two hours into the initial Pickorama, we were checking in at a less-than-nifty 0-2 as we paid dearly for picking against Xaverian and Masconomet. For those scoring at home, that works out to a .000 percentage. It reminded me of the legendary scene in Animal House where Dean Wormer is informing John “Bluto” Blutarsky of his 0.00 grade-point average.

Thankfully, we weathered the early disappointment and rebounded by winning our last seven games (Hingham-Marshfield was canceled) to check in at 7-2 for the week.

Off to week 2.

STOUGHTON over Foxboro: The Ais brothers are going to be a handful once again.

Wellesley over NEEDHAM: The oldest public school rivalry in the country goes to the visitors from Raider Country.

Ashland over WESTWOOD: New-look Clockers should have enough to get the job done.

Marshfield over WHITMANHANSON: Rams had to wait an extra week to get started, but the seven-day hiatus is worth it.

Reading over WINCHESTER: The James Murphy Show gets underway in Winchester.

XAVERIAN over St. John’s (S): Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I’m riding the Hawk Train for at least one week.

ST. JOHN’S PREP over BC High: Eagles should go to 2-0 but it won’t be easy.

ABINGTON over Rockland: Jim Kelliher is like fine wine, he seems to get better with age.

Mansfield over MILFORD: I love the passion that the Olson brothers bring to the table, but Mansfield has been there, done that, way too many to go against them.

Newburyport over LYNNFIELD: Balanced offensive attack may be the difference.
