State: 1 million fully vaccinated

43 new coronaviru­s deaths are reported

Health officials on Friday reported 1,887 new coronaviru­s cases and 43 new deaths as the state hit a milestone of one million residents fully vaccinated against the disease.

“Massachuse­tts has now fully vaccinated over 1 million people and continues to be a national leader in vaccine administra­tion,” Gov. Charlie Baker announced on Twitter Friday. “Thank you to everyone who has supported this progress!”

More than 2.8 million total doses have been administer­ed since the start of the state’s rollout in December, according Friday’s daily vaccine report and 3.2 million total doses have been shipped to the state.

The additional 1,887 coronaviru­s cases reported on Friday bring the total number of cases in the state to 576,022 and 43 new deaths brought the death toll to 16,469.

The seven-day average of confirmed cases is now 1,176 cases, a drop from 6,241 cases at the start of the year.

The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 25,986 cases, down from nearly 100,000 at the start of the year.

Statewide hospitaliz­ations have been dropping amid the state’s vaccine rollout. Hospitaliz­ations on Friday went down by six patients, bringing the total to 586 patients. There are 157 patients in the intensive care unit and 92 are intubated.

The seven-day average of the number of people hospitaliz­ed for COVID-19 has declined from 2,347 patients at the start of January to an average of 620 patients now.

Of the state’s total death toll of 16,469 people, 8,827 of the deaths have been reported in long-term care facilities, an increase of 18 since Thursday.

The seven-day average of confirmed deaths is 23, down from 47 just one month ago. The lowest rate ever was about four deaths in September.

Massachuse­tts’ seven-day weighted average percent positivity is 2%, up slightly in recent days but still well below the World Health Organizati­on threshold for reopening.
