Bay State passes 3M vax-jab milestone
A grand total of more than 3 million coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered in Massachusetts during the vax rollout, the state reported Tuesday as health officials also said more than 64,000 doses were given during the most recent day of data.
The state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Tuesday showed more than 3 million total doses have been administered — 1,905,957 people who have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, 1,035,741 people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna, and 74,888 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
That’s a daily increase of 64,239 shots.
Overall, 1,110,629 people in Massachusetts have been fully vaccinated.
More than 3.4 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 87% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
Meanwhile, state health officials on Tuesday reported 20 new virus deaths and 1,476 new cases.
Tuesday’s 1,476 new cases follows a recent rise in cases as the positive test rate has risen . The seven-day average of confirmed cases is now 1,281 cases, still significantly down from 6,241 cases in the first week of January.
The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 27,006 cases — up from 25,397 last week but a drop from 98,750 cases at the start of the year.
Tuesday’s 20 new virus deaths brings the state’s total recorded death toll to 16,915.
Statewide hospitalizations have dropped overall but ticked up Tuesday. Hospitalizations rose by five patients, bringing the total to 608 patients.
The seven-day average of the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has declined from 2,347 patients at the start of January to an average of 599 patients now.
Of the state’s 16,915 total deaths from the virus, 8,862 deaths have been in longterm care facilities.
