55,366 more vax doses given in Mass.
More than 55,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were given during the most recent day of data, according to Massachusetts health officials who also reported 19 new virus deaths and 1,376 cases.
The state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Monday showed more than 4.5 million total doses have been administered — 2,767,991 people who have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 1,607,970 people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 181,034 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
That’s an increase of 55,366 doses, which is down from prior days. The previous daily vaccinations were 79,086 shots, 105,458 shots, 112,933 shots and 92,825 shots.
Overall, 1,789,004 people in Massachusetts have been fully vaccinated.
More than 5.2 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 87% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
The tally of 1,376 new virus cases follows a recent spike in infections across the state. The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 36,775 cases, up from 25,397 a few weeks ago. The rise in cases comes as the more contagious variants spread in the Bay State.
The 19 new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,406. The seven-day average of daily deaths is now nine, down from 77 daily deaths in late January.
Statewide hospitalizations have been dropping during the vaccine rollout but have fluctuated in recent weeks. Hospitalizations on Monday went up by one patient, bringing the total to 699 patients. There are 162 patients in the intensive care unit, and 102 patients are currently intubated.
The seven-day average of the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has declined from 2,347 patients at the start of January to an average of 714 patients now.
Of the state’s 17,406 total deaths from the virus, 9,016 deaths have been in longterm care facilities.
