WhaT if Trump did ThaT?
“What if Donald Trump had ever said or done anything like that?”
How often do you ask yourself that question when you read about some outrageous statement by a Democrat that most of the corrupt media can’t be bothered to even mention, let alone hyperventilate over?
If President Trump or any members of his family were ever accused of anything like what the Democrats get away with on a daily basis, the Democrats would be drawing up articles for yet another post-presidential impeachment trial.
This double standard is on display constantly, most recently with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island.
Sen. Little Boy Blue is a very woke warrior. But on weekends the trustafarian statesman retreats to a la-deda Brahmin enclave in Newport called the Bailey Beach Club where, as The New York Times once noted, “diversity has made scant inroads.”
Finally Whitehouse — who in 2018 infamously asked Brett Cavanaugh about the flatulence references in his high school yearbook — was called out on his breathtaking hypocrisy by a local reporter from GoLocal Providence.
Whitehouse’s chronic failure to walk the walk while talking the talk is a legitimate issue. At least twice, in 2006 and 2017, he has threatened to quit the club over its Klan-like membership. What Whitehouse did, though, was sneakily transfer his membership to his equally WASPy wife in 2010.
(By the way, messageboard trolls, please don’t bother to post that one of the club directors went to the same prep school I did. That doesn’t mean the Spouting Rock Beach Association, its legal name, would let me within a mile of the club, even if I wanted to be there, which I don’t.)
Anyway, this is what Whitehouse said last weekend when asked whether exclusive, all-white clubs like his should still exist:
“It’s a long tradition in
Rhode Island and there are many of them and I think we just need to work our way through the issues, thank you.”
What if Donald Trump had said that?
Asked yet again if he would push for diversity at the all-white club, Whitehouse said, “I will take that up privately.”
Again, what if Donald Trump had said that?
But what would you expect? The Democrats never said a damn thing about the late Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia, and he was an exalted cyclops in the Ku Klux Klan. Byrd casually used the n-word on Fox News. Nothing to see here folks …
If it weren’t for double standards, the Democrats would have no standards at all.
What if Trump had misidentified the secretary of state as his “foreign minister,” or confused Libya with Syria, three times in 90 seconds? (Joe Biden did just that last week, and none of the Democrat operatives with press passes mentioned the 25th Amendment, even once.)
What if Trump had mixed up George Floyd with George Kirby, the black comedian of 1960s? (Nancy Pelosi did that last year.)
What if Trump had referred to “retarded children,” as Sen. Chuck Schumer did last week, rather than using one of the currently acceptable terms such as “intellectually challenged?”
How about Donald Trump Jr.?
Suppose he’d done any of the stuff that Hunter Biden has gotten away with — racial slur after racial slur, the $83,000-a-month retainer from the Ukrainian company, the revolving door at every high-end detox center in the US, the crack cocaine binges, and now, his art career?
And what if Donald Trump Jr.’s “art dealer” was, like Hunter’s, an ex-con?
Would Trump Jr. be permitted to not release the names of the buyers who were paying him up to a million bucks for his … artwork?
What if one of Donald Trump’s White House “counselors” had gotten hack federal jobs for three of his children since Jan. 20, the way Biden’s coat holder Steve Richetti has done, according to The Washington Post?
What if the sister of Sean Spicer or Kayleigh McEnany or any other Trump flack had gotten a job as “senior adviser” at HHS, the way Jen Psaki’s sister just did?
What if President Trump had bragged on video, the way Joe Biden did in 2020, that “we have put together the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.”
Would the “fact-checkers” have claimed that it was just a “slip of the tongue” for Joe Biden to brag about his voter fraud organization?
If Donald Trump had made a homophobic joke about the first NFL player coming out as gay, the way Joy Behar did Monday, would he have been allowed to shrug it off by telling The View’s brain-dead viewers to “scratch it?”
You know the answers to all of these questions, and so does Sheldon Whitehouse, who told the reporter that when it comes to the systemic racism of his hoitytoity club, “I will take that up privately.”
It’s great to be a Democrat. Being a Democrat means never having to say you’re sorry.
