‘Gossip Girl’ reboot serves up feast for fashion fans

- Gretta MONAHAN

Anybody who regularly watched the original “Gossip Girl” knows the outsized impact the outfits had on viewers, often overshadowing the plot. Well, the show’s reboot (now streaming on HBO Max) has launched a thousand projections from fashion lovers, all about whether it will do that all over again. The answer — after a very, very promising start — is a resounding yes.

Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf may be no more in the new version — after all, it’s been about eight years since the final episode of the original series — but fear not: Scads of fantastic looks still make regular appearances on the new characters (all of whom are, as before, elite Manhattan high school kids).

From their lobby-sized walk-in closets to their mountains of designer accessories (the better to jazz up creativity-stifling private school uniforms), the on-point fashion abounds. The show’s only just begun, and already there’s been a plethora of key fashion moments. The kind we can use as a little inspiration this season, worn in our own fair city.

Here are the Top 5 Looks from “Gossip Girl,” and how to wear them:

No. 1: Silk scarves.

They were abundant in the original series, and they still play big in the reboot — whether it’s a Gucci floral tied primly around Kate Keller’s (Tavi Gevinson) neck or a Burberry silk scarf on Zoya Lott (Whitney Peak) .

How to wear it now: Skip the headband effect (that’s so OG Gossip Girl, a la Blair) and go for the always-classic move — tying one around the strap of your favorite handbag.

Where to wear it: To the MFA exhibit “Monet and Boston: Legacy Illuminated” (mfa.org).

Get it: Danse Pacific Scarf ($435 on hermes.com).

No. 2: Sky-high boots.

Worn on the regular by the show’s newest big shot, Julien Callaway (Jordan Alexander) — often to punctuate her otherwise bare legs.

How to wear it now: With a miniskirt or shorts.

Where to wear it: These call for nighttime. As in, dinner out at a hot and swish new spot like Contessa (thenewburyboston.com).

Get it: Highland Suede Over-the-Knee Boots by Stuart Weitzman ($795 on neimanmarcus.com).

No. 3: An iconic bag.

Like the Christian Dior St. Honore Tote rocked by the show’s classic fashion lover, Audrey Hope (Emily Alyn Lind).

How to wear it now: With virtually everything. Make it casual with jeans and sling it diagonally like a messenger bag. Use it as an evening bag. Hold it by the small handle while wearing a shift dress and channel Audrey Hepburn.

Where to wear it: Pretty much anywhere. On a swan boat, on the T, to the ballet, or to work. And with its hefty price tag, you’ll want to wear it to all those places and more, so you can get your money’s worth out of it.

Get it: Black Box Calfskin Christian Dior St. Honore Tote ($5,000 on dior.com).

No. 4: Schoolgirl sweaters.

They’re as de rigeur outside the classroom as they are in it.

How to wear it now: Choose lightweight this time of year, and drape it on shoulders for day, pull it on if things gets breezy at night.

Where to wear it: To the office over slouchy pants; topping an LBD.

Get it: Ariel Metallic-Trimmed Merino Wool and Cashmere-Blend Cardigan by L’Agence ($237.50 on neta-porter.com).

No. 5: A metallic statement piece.

See the bright tangerine number donned by Zoya Lott (Peak) in the show’s runway sequence.

How to wear it now: With neutral shoes, a men’s-cut blazer, and a teensy tiny evening bag.

Where to wear it: On date night in the Seaport.

Get it: Galvan Delirium cocktail dress ($957 on farfetched.com).
