DEFENSIVE NOTES
□ Starting and backup personnel during scoutteam periods: defensive linemen Lawrence Guy, Davon Godchaux, Deatrich Wise, Henry Anderson, Akeem Spence and Christian Barmore; linebackers Dont’a Hightower, Matt Judon, Kyle Van Noy, Ja’Whaun Bentley and Chase Winovich; and defensive backs Devin McCourty, J.C. Jackson, Jalen Mills, Kyle Dugger, Jonathan Jones, Adrian Phillips, and Joejuan Williams.
□ Would-be sacks: Uche 3, Van Noy 2, Judon, McCourty.
□ Interceptions: McCourty.
□ Pass breakups: J.C. Jackson, Mills.
□ Run stuffs: Team 2.
□ Jonathan Jones missed most of the 11-on-11 snaps with an apparent left leg injury. He was also whistled for a defensive pass interference penalty.
□ The Patriots’ pass rush overwhelmed Daniel Jones in several periods, either through sacks or pressures that generated poor throws.
□ Mills and Williams are splitting time at outside corner, with Mills kicking to the slot when the Patriots deploy three cornerbacks.
□ The Pats continue to spend significant time in 3-4 base personnel, an interesting shift in a pass-happy league.
□ During one such snap, Judon blew up a tunnel screen on the Giants’ second offensive snap. That opening series ended in a punt.
□ The Giants capped their second drive — interrupted by multiple sacks — with a short touchdown pass to fullback Elijhaa Penny in front of McCourty.
□ Winovich saw extended run with the starting group on the Giants’ third series. He failed to register a hurry.
□ On fourth down of the fourth series, Phillips leapt in front of tight end Nakia Griffin-Stewart deep down the middle of the field but failed to knock the pass away, allowing Griffin-Stewart to coast for a would-be score.
□ Down in the red zone, Mills managed an easy pass breakup and then allowed a catch near the goal line.
□ Myles Bryant wore a red, non-contract jersey again and was held out of 11-on-11s.
