THE HERALD’S TAKE:
This position always seems to come down to what to do with Harry. His shoulder injury, one that’s supposed to keep him out several weeks, doesn’t help matters. The Patriots don’t want to IR him before cut-downs, because that would end his season.
So if they want to trade him, or keep him, they’ll initially have him among the 53, before sticking him on injured reserve, and gaining the roster spot back.
Either way, he’s not going to count against this roster projection.
So does that make them short at receiver, with just Meyers (slot), Bourne (Z receiver), Agholor (X receiver) and Olszewski (slot), with Slater more of a core special-teamer?
If they’re able to get Wilkerson on the practice squad, he can be elevated on game day and provide depth. Wilkerson looked like he had a decent shot to make the roster, but it’s hard to ignore his issues with drops.
Nixon, the 7th-round pick, has been injured and could get a redshirt year on IR. It’s possible they’ll add another wideout down the road.
