This Saturday at 8 p.m., Soul of a Legend co-founders Peter Hackel and James Montgomery will hold the band’s annual concert at the Regent Theatre in Arlington to commemorate all 9/11 victims, including Hackel’s stepmother, Paige Farley-Hackel.

“We hope that people never forget, that they continue to honor the people who perished and give thanks for our freedom and the country we live in so that these people will not have died in vain,” Hackel said.

“When we think of others and give back, it helps heal the pain and create joy and gratitude.”

The concert will feature blues icon and Soul of a Legend frontman James Montgomery; guitarist Regi Hendrix, a cousin of legendary rock musician Jimi Hendrix; and Hackel on drums, with an all-star lineup of Boston musicians.

Tickets range from $25 to $50, with the proceeds going toward maintenance of the Paige Farley-Hackel Memorial Playground in Dorchester.

The plot of land on which it was built is adjacent to the Salvation Army Children’s Learning Center on Wales Street and was once a neighborhood eyesore known as “the steps to nowhere.”

Farley-Hackel served on the Salvation Army’s advisory board.

Former Mayor Thomas Menino sold the land for the park to the nonprofit for $1.

After that, dozens of people came together to build a playground where children have flourished since its dedication in June 2007.
