A man in his mid-30s was fatally shot in a “brazen shooting” Wednesday afternoon in Egleston Square, Boston Police said.

Officers responded to 3108 Washington St. in Roxbury just before 2:30 p.m. and found the man suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead, Superintendent-inChief Gregory Long told reporters at the scene.

Long said it is not believed to be a random act.

Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins said, “This is a middle-of-the-day, brazen shooting. This is vibrant community. Hardworking people work here and they deserve to be safe.”

The site of the shooting was just two blocks away from the Rafael Hernandez K-8 School.

Wednesday’s shooting is an active investigation.

Police have asked community members to come forward with information.

Rollins commended Boston Police on making “significant movement” in recent homicide cases.
