DANNY V'S FOOTBALL PICKORAMA

-

A text at 6:20 a.m. on the first Thursday of the high school football season could only mean one thing: Thursday Pickorama is back.

Once again, we will put on our thinking caps and try to pick the winners of 10 of the premier high school games on the docket each weekend of the upcoming season. Please remember that these are just picks, do not take anything personally.

After what we’ve been through over the last 18 months, let’s have fun and enjoy the picks.

Let the angry tweets and emails begin.

XAVERIAN over Everett: Have a feeling this game could come down to the battle in the trenches and the Hawks are pretty good up there.

SPRINGFIELD CENTRAL over Central Catholic: Home field could be a major factor in this battle of legitimate Div. 1 state championship contenders.

Duxbury over BRIDGEWATERRAYNHAM: The battle of first-year head coaches goes to the visiting side.

Barnstable over BROCKTON: I’ll take the team with more experience early in September, just keep the computers and newspapers away from my good friend Galvo for a week.

READING over Melrose: Murphy’s Law dictates that all 21-game winning streaks must come to an end.

Middleboro over APPONEQUET: Don’t be shocked to see the Sachems in the Sweet 16 at some point in time.

SCITUATE over Milton: Talented Sailors get the call in this juicy nonleague matchup.

St. John’s Prep over MARSHFIELD: Eagles out to show that their Fall II record was more of an anomaly.

CATHOLIC MEMORIAL over Capital Prep (Conn.): Talented Knights to prevail over the young men from the Nutmeg State.

Danvers over TEWKSBURY: Hate going against Aylward’s Army at home, but I think the Falcons are going to be sneaky good.

HOME TEAM IN CAPS LAST YEAR: 46-18 (.718)
