Chelmsford man fenced in, now faces charges
The State Police Gang Unit got their man after a barbed-wire fence did its job.
Jared Silva, 26, was arrested Thursday morning in Chelmsford, where he was wanted for warrants for distributing a Class A narcotic, which includes drugs like heroin, morphine and methamphetamines, as well as on domestic assault and battery and motor vehicle violations, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The State Police’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section worked in tandem with Chelmsford and Lowell Police, members of a U.S. Marshals Task Force and the Middlesex Sheriff ’s office to nab Silva, and began by staking out a residence of interest.
Team members observed a man matching Silva’s description getting into a car at the residence and parking in a fenced-in parking lot on Middlesex Street in Chelmsford. Once unmarked cruisers followed him into the parking lot, Silva accelerated out of the spot without warning at “excessive speeds,” according to the release.
When he saw police had blocked the parking lot exit, he tried unsuccessfully to crash through the barbed wire-topped fence and was stopped. Silva then exited the car and surrendered.
Police said a search of his car turned up a .40 caliber pistol with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the magazine, a 30-gram bag of suspected Fentanyl and a 15gram bag of suspected crack cocaine.
Silva was arrested on the warrants, and additional charges are still pending.
