Eliminate Gesicki

-

While the Dolphins have a formidable receiving corps, led by DeVante Parker and rookie Jaylen Waddle, tight end Mike Gesicki is Tua’s go-to-guy.

During training camp and the preseason, Adrian Phillips was the designated tight end eraser. So it’ll likely be his job to mark Gesicki, and force Tua to go to his second and third options.

Or, it’s also possible for Joejuan Williams, who limited Gesicki in last year’s season opener (1 catch, 9 yards on 3 targets), to get the nod. Whether it’s Phillips or Williams, the goal remains the same. “He’s definitely a problem. He’s someone that we definitely have to pay close attention to,” Patriots defensive play-caller Steve Belichick said of Gesicki. “He’s just a valuable piece of their offense, along with the rest of those guys. So we’ll have our hands full with him.”

Last season, Gesicki caught 53 passes for 703 yards, with six touchdown catches. No doubt new play-caller George Godsey will do his best to make it easy for Tua and Gesicki to connect.

The Pats will also have to take care of Waddle and Parker, with Jonathan Jones likely drawing the speedy Waddle, and J.C. Jackson taking the top gun, Parker. But given the nature of the Fins offense, taking away the safety blanket is the first priority.
