May miss rest of season

- By RICH THOMPSON

Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec underwent surgery of his right hand on Monday at NewtonWellesley Hospital and could miss the remainder of the season.

Veteran quarterback Dennis Grosel will be under center when BC travels to Philadelphia to take on the Temple Owls at noon Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field.

Jurkovec suffered the hand injury after a fall in the first quarter of last Saturday’s 45-28 victory at UMass.

He passed for 2,558 yards in 10 starts last season after transferring to BC from Notre Dame.

Jurkovec was the ACC’s quarterback of the week after passing for 303 yards and three touchdowns in BC’s 51-0 win over Colgate in the season opener.

The team also announced that graduate place kicker Aaron Boumerhi will miss the remainder of the season due to a hip injury he sustained in training camp. Boumerhi was replaced by Danny Longman, who is 2-for-2 on field goals and 10for-11 on PATs through two games.
