Behind Carter Burke’s goal and Tommy Gallagher’s shutout in net, the Rockland (2-0) beat Cohasset in boys soccer for the first time since 2010 with a 1-0 win in South Shore League play.

SCHOOLS

Gustav Hemmingsen paced Winthrop with both of its goals, while Mateo Martinez earned the shutout as part of a 2-0 win over nonleague foe East Boston. … Derek Thorburn notched himself a pair of goals, as West Bridgewate­r blanked Mashpee 4-0.

In the Middlesex League, senior Michael Harden notched a goal and added an assist, and Eric Pettorossi recorded his second straight shutout in net to power Reading past Wilmington 4-0.

Girls soccer

Georgina Clarke picked up three goals and an assist to power Hopkinton to a 4-2 win over Holliston in the Tri-Valley League.

A pair of goals from Sabrina Campbell and another score from Mollie Cahalane boosted Pentucket to a 3-0 Cape Ann League win over Newburypor­t.

Reilly Hickey found the back of the net twice for Mystic Valley in a season-opening 3-0 shutout of Essex Tech in a Commonweal­th Athletic Conference tilt.

Cat Herman, Tess Barrett and Peyton Lord each buried a goal to help Cohasset score three unanswered goals in a 3-2 comeback win over Rockland in the South Shore League.

Eighth-grader Sophie Skabeikis starred for St. Mary’s (L) (2-0-1), scoring twice in an 8-1 nonleague victory over Northeast.

Senior Hadley Rhodes dished out 18 assists and sophomore Sarah Hilliard recorded nine kills as Oliver Ames swept Canton 3-0 in Hockomock League action. … Sami Shore provided a spark with nine kills, helping to guide King Philip to a 3-0 sweep of Taunton.

Sarah DeSousa posted 15 kills and Rylee Botelho had 29 assists for Fairhaven (1-1) in a 3-0 nonleague win over Bishop Stang.
