Catholic schools

Gary Franks’ oped on Catholic schools closing in inner cities is right on. However it misses one important point. Where does the money come from to pay the teachers and staff salaries and benefits at Catholic schools? We have money to give away all over the world but none to support Catholic schools, which will continue to close throughout the country.

The handwriting is and has been on the wall. Separation of church and state no problem. Just approve vouchers and the problem may be solved. Charters schools seem to be doing great at taxpayers’ expense. — Paul B. Ahern, Melrose
