Haverhill’s Maccario in Mid-Am semis

Nick Maccario of Haverhill is through to the semifinals at the U.S. Mid-Amateur being contested at Sankaty Head Golf Club on Nantucket.

The 2020 state player of the year started Wednesday by defeating Brad Nurski 3 and 2 in the round of 16. He followed that up by routing Gregor Orlando 5 and 4 in the quarterfinals.

Maccario will face Mark Costanza in the semifinals. The first 18 holes of the 36-hole final will start this afternoon with the second 18 being contested Friday morning.

By reaching the quarterfinals, Maccario earned a spot in next year’s U.S. Amateur. A spot in the U.S. Open and an invitation to the Masters are among the perks that go to the champion.
