DANNY V'S FOOTBALL PICKORAMA

-

I hate to pat myself on the back (ok, no I don’t), but we’re having a pretty successful start to the Pickorama Season.

Our winning percentage against schools not located on Tremont Street in Lynn is a robust 82.1 percent. Unfortunately, that Catholic Central League school whose name will not be mentioned here has stuck it to me twice, dropping the overall percentage to 76.6

The school who is not being named yet is part of our Pickorama once again, so its identity will be divulged shortly.

Another team we underestimated last week and paid the price for was Franklin. The Panthers overcame an early deficit and went on to knock off Duxbury. Memo to the Duxbury fan who took a cheapshot jab at me on twitter in the first quarter when it was 14-0 Duxbury – you don’t get trophies for being ahead early in the game.

The third loss last week came up in the Merrimack Valley where we figured Andover was a shoo-in to extend its unbeaten streak against Lawrence to 37 years. An inspired Lawrence team stunned the high school football world by ending the drought with a well-earned 3726 win.

Time to unveil our Week 4 picks.

CATHOLIC MEMORIAL over Bishop Hendricken (RI): Knights continue their victory tour against out-of-state competition.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC over Andover: Raiders get the call in their MVC Large season opener.

ASHLAND over Bellingham: Love the way the Clockers are playing so far and I see that momentum carrying though.

Hanover over PLYMOUTH SOUTH: Air Landolfi vs. Ground Johnson. Slight edge to the visitors.

Mansfield over FRANKLIN: Hornets find a way to get the job done once again.

BISHOP FENWICK over St. Mary’s: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times...

Xaverian over LAWRENCE: Lancers might be the feel good story so far, but the visiting Hawks aren’t about to add another chapter to that saga.

STONEHAM over Wakefield: Early season test of Middlesex Freedom unbeatens goes to the host Spartans.

MILTON ACADEMY over St. Sebastian’s: Mustangs should be able to pick their second win of the year.

BB&N over GOVERNOR’S ACADEMY: Knights get their first chance to prove their status as the team to beat in the ISL-6.
