Rollins’ policies

- — Paul Ahern, Melrose

“Rollins policies have not resulted in a rise “in crime, so says U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.)

Really! Obviously, if you don’t arrest people for crimes, the statistics will show no rise in crime, which is the case with Rollins.

Rollins does not want to put low-level criminals in jail because the financial cost to taxpayers to incarcerate criminals will overburden the system and taxpayers. When we let low-level crime go unpunished it becomes high-level crime. When Rachael or her family get their pocketbook ripped off their shoulder and mugged or drugs sold to her kids, family or friends, it might be a different story. Incarcerate and burden the taxpayer, not necessarily. Home confinement, ankle bracelet monitoring, community service and other punishments by the judge certainly make invalid Rachael’s reasoning for not prosecuting low-level crime.

Someone like our sheriff of Plymouth County might be a better law and order nominee for U.S. attorney general only, but only, if you want to reduce crime in Massachusetts. If lowlevel crime is acceptable to you then Rollins is a good nominee.
