Signs of stress

- By ALEXI COHAN

Children have returned to the classroom after many tumultuous months of remote or hybrid learning, which can come with some stress and anxiety. The American Psychological Association recommends looking out for these signs in kids and teens.

Negative changes in behavior such as complaining, crying, clinging to a parent or teacher, sleeping or eating too much or too little and withdrawing from favorite activities.

Physical symptoms such as stomach aches, headaches and frequent visits to the nurse’s office.

Using words such as “worried,” “confused” or “annoyed” to describe their feelings.

Saying negative things such as “I’m stupid” or “Nobody likes me.”

Avoiding parents or abandoning long-term friendships.
