Sox tix max out at $7,900 for ALCS Game 3

- By MEGHAN OTTOLINI

The Boston Red Sox’ improbable playoff run will continue into the American League Championship Series, and tickets to the first home game at Fenway next week are already listed as high as $7,900 on some broker sites.

“My phone is blowing up with requests,” said John Higgins, owner of Bostonbased ticket broker Higs Tickets. “People want to lock in specific seats, they don’t want to be shut out.”

Fenway’s field box seats are the highest priced tickets on third-party reseller sites like HigsTickets.com. Seats in field box B9 are listed for $7,920 each. Seats across the park in field box B70 are listed for $3,300 per ticket.

The Red Sox will begin selling tickets out of their own box office at noon Friday.

A series against the Houston Astros would keep ticket prices high, Higgins predicts, because Houston has a dedicated fan base who likes to travel. There’s also added drama in the faceoff because Red Sox manager Alex Cora previously served on the Astros’ coaching staff during a major cheating scandal that rocked Major League Baseball and resulted in his one-year suspension from managing the Sox in 2020.

Conversely, a series against the Chicago White Sox would likely bring ticket prices down, Higgins said.

Fenway Park is among the smallest ballparks in the MLB, but the variety of seating options makes the 37,493-capacity venue somewhat accessible to fans on a budget. Energetic fans can opt for standing room only tickets in numerous areas of the park, including on top of the Green Monster.

“They do have ticketing for everyone,” Higgins said. “So if you just want to get into the ballpark, there are options. Having said that, you’re still paying almost $200 just to get into this game.”

Game 3 of the ALCS is Monday night at Fenway Park. The teams will also play Games 4 and 5 in Boston.
