Perhaps Hunter Biden has a political purpose after all

- Peter Lucas Peter Lucas is a veteran Massachusetts political reporter and columnist.

There is no truth to the rumor — started by me — that President Joe Biden will name his son Hunter U.S. ambassador to China.

It may not be necessary, though, since Biden has already nominated Nicholas Burns, a longtime State Department official and former ambassador to NATO and Greece.

Still, should Burns face rough confirmation waters from Senate Republicans, Biden can always fall back on Hunter should the need arise.

After all, who would be better at connecting to the powers that run China’s communist police state than the president’s wayward son, the oldest juvenile delinquent in the country?

If there any doubt about Hunter’s influence, one need only read the recently leaked emails, first printed by Business Insider, in which Hunter’s business associates bragged about his access to the White House when Joe Biden was vice president.

Now that Papa Joe is president, Hunter is even more influential, having added literature (a book) and art (his paintings) to his body of accomplishments

These emails are not to be confused with prior leaked 2017 emails in which Hunter wrote business partners that 10% of a pending deal with a Chinese energy firmed was earmarked for the “big guy,” later identified as Joe Biden.

The latest batch of emails concern a potential Libyan financial deal in 2015 that, for one reason or another, never took place. But they do show how Hunter was not averse to peddling his access to the White House.

The first email, dated Jan. 28, 2015, was between two Democratic Party donors, Sam Jauhari and Sheikh Mohammed al-Rahbani, who were both involved with Libya. The deal reportedly involved billions of dollars in assets that the Obama administration had frozen.

“Per phone conversation I met with #2 son. He wants #2 per year retainer +++ success fees. He wants to hire his own people — it can be close circle of people for confidentiality. His dad is deciding to run or not,” Jauhari wrote.

The #2 retainer represented the $2 million a year Hunter Biden requested.

The email went on: “His positives are he is Chairman of UN World Food Program, son of #2 who has access to State, Treasury, business partner of SofS (Secretary of State) J. (John) Forbes K (Kerry) son and since he travels with dad he is connected everywhere in Europe and Asia where M.Q. (Muammar Qaddafi) and LIA (Libya Investment Authority) had money frozen. He said he has access to highest level in PRC (China) and can help there.”

That was the bright side. On the dark side, Jauhari added, “His negatives are that he is alcoholic, drug addict — kicked (out) of U.S. Army (Navy) for cocaine, chasing low-class hookers, constantly needs money-liquidity problems and many more headaches.” Other than that, he’s a good guy, and his father now happens to be president. Which means he has a lifelong free pass.

Hunter Biden in China would be extremely helpful to Papa Joe. Not only does Hunter know how to wheel and deal with China, but he is also not averse to picking up a few yuan for the family back home.

Perhaps given Hunter’s experience with addiction he could actually be helpful in persuading China to stem the flow of fentanyl or the chemicals that go into producing it, which the country ships off for distribution and sale.

The scourge of fentanyl helped spark a 30% increase in drug overdose deaths in the U.S. last year alone, to over 93,000. Considering that 58,220 Americans were killed during the eight years the U.S. fought in the Vietnam War, the human cost is staggering.

Speaking of wars, with Hunter in place, Papa Joe would have a reliable source of intelligence if Hunter’s boots were on the ground in Beijing

For instance, were the president intent on attacking China, he would not have to rely on chatty Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to give China a heads-up.

He would just have to tell Hunter, giving the kid some time to put a few more deals together for “the big guy” before the beginning of World War III.
