Fall River police officers at 10:33 p.m. responded to the Stop N Save convenience store at 201 Rock St. for a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The 911 caller had entered the store to buy food and found the owner on the floor behind the counter with blood on his chest.

First responders transported the victim, Lal Kishor Mahaseth, 54, of Fall River, to Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Mahaseth,” said Jonathan Shaer, executive director of the New England Convenience Store and Energy Marketers Association.

“Convenience store owners and clerks work hard to be a reliable source for products and food to their communities,” he added. “Their safety should never be in question.”
