Toyota Supra is back
Redesigned classic is simply fun to drive
In the world today, everyone loves a bargain.
For context, think about it, it’s all about the bang for the buck and getting the most for your money. Well in Toyota’s eyes, they brought back an icon, and in good fashion. The 2021 Supra GR is back and here to stay!
Created and designed by BMW, Toyota’s Supra is not only an icon, but a huge bang for the buck. Its ultra stiff chassis is exactly what consumers want in a small funsized weekend cruiser.
Take the turns hard on those windy backroads and all the fun you can have surfaces to the top.
In normal mode, our Renaissance Red Supra GR experienced tip top performance at every push of the peddle, while in Sport mode, we noticed it really came alive and spun the 19-inch Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires at every opportunity. For past Supra lovers, there might be some level of disappointment as the GR comes with a eight-speed automatic transmission while a manual is not an option. With 382 horsepower and 368 lb.-ft. of torque, the Supra’s 3.0-liter Turbo Inline six-cylinder engine is no slouch and is quick on its feet.
Similar to the BMW Z4, we notice a lot of similarities but also some nicely thought of differences like site-lines as the Supra is a hardtop and the Z4 is a convertible. The exterior showed some nice additions and vents similar to that of a supercar, which were nicely positioned and accented.
The interior seemed slightly plain, but nothing new there as BMW thrives on easy and the Supra is exactly that. An 8.8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Apple CarPlay capabilities while we enjoyed the wireless charging station under the center stack. The heads up display came in full color and was crisp and clear. The seats hugged perfectly to a full frame body and more comfortably to a thinner shaped consumer.
For Supra lovers abound, the push for Toyota to recreate its stout performance two-door is understandable, and with the knowledge and research of BMW, it is completely clear their motive. Not only is the Supra a great option, but it’s two-door, hardtop, fun on the pavement.
