Wrong season

I was disappointed but not really surprised to see the headline in the Herald: “NBA starts its 75th season tonight.” Everybody’s saying that. But it’s wrong. Their first season was 1946-47, so yes, this is their 75th anniversary, but it is their 76th season, just as their first anniversary was their second season. The numbers will always differ by one: The season will always be one more than the anniversary. That is, unless they skip a season! And with collective bargaining, that could happen.
