Methuen child rapist on the run

A man convicted of raping two teen girls escaped custody in the middle of his trial last month and is still on the lam.

Stephen Corbin Jr., 28, of Methuen, cut off his courtordered GPS monitoring bracelet somewhere along North Street in Andover after the third day of his sixday trial in April, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Corbin was convicted April 14 of eight counts of aggravated rape of a child for sexually assaulting two teenage girls who were known to him — one 15 and the other 14 years old — multiple times both at a residence in Lexington and a motel in Bedford, the DA wrote in a statement.

The DA said he plied the girls with drugs and alcohol before raping them during the events of 2016 and 2017.

Corbin told the younger of the two girls, who he had hired as a babysitter the summer of 2016, that the sex acts — which were statutory rape — were a “favor for a favor” for the molly, a street name for MDMA or ecstasy; marijuana and alcohol he supplied her, according to charging documents.

Corbin, who was a trusted person of the girl’s father, continued to prey upon her in this way. He’d pick her up, hang out with her even when she wasn’t babysitting for him, and drive her to the motel often so he could perform various acts of rape upon her.

Eventually, court documents showed that the girl became uncomfortable with the situation and “began to make excuses for being unavailable to babysit or spend time with the defendant” and told a friend what he had been doing to her.

By April 2017, the older of the two girls, a friend of the babysitter who had at first joined her in the babysitting, had made plans to hang out with the younger girl. Corbin picked her up under the pretense they’d be meeting with the younger girl, but instead took her to the motel and plied her with marijuana and molly before raping her, according to court documents.

The DA’s office said Corbin — a 5-foot-11, 160-pound white man with blonde hair and blue eyes — has ties to the Methuen,

Lawrence, Haverhill and Hudson, New Hampshire, communities. The office asks that anyone with any information on his whereabouts call Massachusetts
