Bohane blasts CM

- By Matt Feld hssports@bostonherald.com

On Morrissey Boulevard, Cole Bohane is quickly developing into Mr. Clutch.

In a pivotal Catholic Conference matchup, Bohane blasted a game-winning three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning as BC High defeated Catholic Memorial 9-6 in West Roxbury on Monday afternoon.

Bohane’s blast keeps BC High (11-4, 5-2) alive in the race for the Catholic Conference title. Catholic Memorial (8-4, 6-1) came in with a chance to clinch a share of the crown but now will have to wait another day.

“Last week down in Bridgewater-Raynham, Cole delivered a clutch hit for us and he did it again today,” BC High coach Steve Healy said. “He’s just big time. He can really hit it to all fields and he got it done again today.”

With the game deadlocked 6-6 and both teams scoreless for the previous three innings, Bohane delivered in the top of the eighth.

After Niko Brini (1-for-3, 2R HR) singled and Ronan Donahue walked, Bohane strode to the plate and fell behind 0-2. The sophomore right-handed slugger proceeded to foul off two pitches before hitting an opposite field shot to give BC High a 9-6 lead.

Donahue (4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 7 Ks) worked around a twoout walk in the bottom of the eighth to seal the road win for the Eagles.

“These kids just know how to compete,” Healy said. “We lost a heartbreaker at Bridgewater on Friday and there were times today we could have folded but they just get right back after it. It’s very impressive.”

The back-and-forth affair saw Catholic Memorial score five times in the bottom of the third to erase a 2-0 deficit.

After a pair of singles, Nick DiRito crushed a three-run home run to put the Knights up 3-2. Later in the frame, Gabriel Malaret roped a two run double down the left field to stretch CM’s advantage to 5-2.

BC High answered a half inning later as four walks, a hit, a wild pitch, and a Donahue two-run double to left put BC High back on top, 6-5.

Conor Coulter scored on a double steal for the Knights in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-6, where is remained until the Bohane’s heroics in extra innings.
