Blue Line suspension extended

- By Flint McColgan flint.mccolgan@bostonherald.com

The suspension of MBTA Blue Line service between the Airport and the line’s western terminus at Bowdoin Station has been extended through Friday.

“Riders should allow for extra commuting time and expect some delays in shuttle bus service,” the agency wrote in a statement. “The MBTA apologizes in advance for these delays and appreciates the patience of its riders as work on the Blue Line is completed.”

Service was scheduled to resume on Monday, but the MBTA has pushed that through this week “to complete additional work and finish scheduled work” on the T tunnels running under the harbor.

The MBTA is providing bus service — both T buses and charters -- along the line.

The extension also backs up planned work on the eastern end of the line, from Wonderland to Orient Heights stations, to work on the Suffolk Downs pedestrian bridge.

The MBTA has not determined new dates for that service suspension, which was originally scheduled for between May 12 and May 29.
