The race in the state’s 3rd Congressional District became official this week when former state Sen. Dean Tran filed the required number of signatures to officially join the ballot in November.

“The people in the district deserve a voice, someone who will represent them with integrity and transparency, and I look forward to representing them.” said Tran, a Republican, said in a release.

A spokesperson for the incumbent, Democratic U.S. Rep Lori Trahan, said she is ready for the race against Tran.

“Congresswoman Trahan looks forward to making the case for why she should be re-elected to continue standing up for women’s reproductive rights and bringing home critical federal investments like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which are already being put to use rebuilding bridges, roads, and water systems across Massachusetts,” the spokesperson said via text message.

Trahan’s team said Tran is running to the extreme wing of his party.

“The last thing families, particularly women, in the Third District need is an anti-choice representative whose sole focus is joining Kevin McCarthy and Marjorie Taylor Greene to reverse the decades of progress we’ve made,” he said.

Tran’s announcement, meanwhile, attempts to paint Trahan as part of a trio alongside President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

“The people of the Third Congressional District are suffering from record inflation and gas prices, with many facing their economic breaking point. These problems are all the result of the Biden-Pelosi-Trahan’s inept and incompetent leadership,” said Tran.
