Gov. Charlie Baker was unwell enough to cancel all of his public events Tuesday, but apparently does not have COVID-19.

“Governor Baker is not feeling well and will not be attending public events in person today. The Governor is attending meetings virtually today and has tested negative for COVID-19,” a spokesperson told the Herald.

Baker was scheduled to appear at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a new building in the Seaport just after noon.

Shortly before the event, his staff notified the press his public schedule had been cleared and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito would fill in for him at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“Last night when I saw the governor I said, ‘Gov, there is such a thing as doing too much’ and that he does suffer from — doing a whole lot as we are finishing our service this year,” she said.

Baker and Polito announced in December they would not seek reelection to a third term.

Baker was also scheduled to appear at the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting Tuesday night, when he was to be inducted into the organization’s Academy of Distinguished Bostonians.
