Authorities are investigating an apparent domestic murdersuicide in Lynn.

Lynn Police responded to 23 Mudge St. at about 1:21 p.m. Thursday and found a man and woman who had been shot to death inside an apartment, according to the Essex District Attorney’s Office.

The man, Jessie Mitchell, 46, appears to have fatally shot his wife, Yajaira Mitchell, 31, and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the DA’s office said.

DA spokesperson Carrie Kimball said the couple was not living together at the time of the shooting. Yajaira Mitchell, who had been granted a restraining order against her husband on April 25, was still a resident of the home.

The couple’s children were not present when the apparent murder-suicide occurred, Kimball said.

According to the restraining order, which was filed in Lynn District Court, Jessie Mitchell had been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Yajaira Mitchell, pay $15,000 to his wife to compensate her for the “losses suffered as a direct result of the abuse” and surrender his gun.

The matter remains under investigation by the DA’s office, Essex State Police Detective Unit and the Lynn Police Department.
